DigiSchool Morocco: Driving National Education Transformation

Launched in February 2024 with a focus on rural schools, the Morocco DigiSchool project aims to empower students and teachers nationwide with digital skills and provide training in advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and web and app development.

In a broader context, the project is aligned with national strategies such as the GENIE Program, which aims to integrate ICT into education, and the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy, which seeks to position the North African nation as a regional leader in digital transformation.

Running over the course of a year, Morocco DigiSchool offers both online and offline sessions for training teachers in new technologies and pedagogical tools, along with follow-up activities to monitor the implementation of these new teaching skills in classroom scenarios. This provides a framework for integrating ICT into teaching practices and driving education equity and inclusion to overcome unequal access to digital infrastructure in Morocco, especially in rural areas. The project also includes offline tools and mobile training hubs for overcoming infrastructure limitations, with regular monitoring and incentives like certifications and prizes to keep students and teachers motivated and engaged.

Students are encouraged to apply their newly learned skills in problem-solving activities during hackathons and tech fairs, with prizes awarded for the best solutions at national bootcamps and demo days.

The project’s success is ensured through the collaboration of various partners:

• Huawei TECH4ALL provides technology solutions.
• The Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports manages program implementation and national coordination, and the Regional Academics of Education and Training (AREF) organizes teacher training sessions and local logistics.
• The GENIE Department & Regional Labs for Digital Resources in the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports promotes awareness of the DigiSchool program.
• Educall designs and delivers training to target beneficiaries and manages follow-ups through e-learning resources.

The story so far:

DigiSchool 2024

• 12 national school roadshows provided training for 265 secondary school teachers in ICT skills for classroom application across Morocco’s 12 regions in rural areas.
• Follow-up monitoring with the teachers and 2,650 of their students through 71 meetings ensured the effective execution of the program in classroom scenarios.
• 12 regional hackathons covering Morocco’s 12 regions brought together 714 students to develop ICT solutions to given challenges, with winning teams competing in the national bootcamps.
• 3 bootcamps comprising 240 participants, 180 students and 60 teachers resulted in 6 winning teams.

DigiSchool 2025

• 12 national school roadshows: Each roadshow provided training for students and teachers in ICT skills, covering 12 Regional Academies of Education and Training (AREFs). 48 new schools were reached, with 502 teachers and 3,171 students trained
• 12 regional hackathons across Morocco’s 12 regions
• 100 tech fairs were held nationwide to showcase teacher and student projects
• The national bootcamp in Rabat brought together 63 students and 13 teachers split into 12 teams, one from each of Morocco’s regions, from which four winning teams were selected.

The hackathons also featured fun and interactive practical challenges:

The City Tech Rebuild Challenge asked teams to explore real urban challenges such as transportation, waste management, energy efficiency, education access, social inclusion, public safety, and environmental sustainability. Solutions technical skills in robotics and programming, as well as creativity, systems thinking, and human-centric problem-solving.

The E-Sports activity combined digital skills, teamwork, and strategic thinking in a competitive yet collaborative environment set in the structured world of esports. Requiring communication, coordination, leadership, and quick decision-making, the event to helped students understand broader digital careers such as game design, streaming, event management, data analysis, and digital marketing.
